Reading Festival Curaçao Inspires Children to Read More

The Biblionef Foundation Netherlands, the Ministry of Education, the University of Curaçao, and the National Library of Curaçao are proud to annouce the succesful completion of the first Reading Festival Curaçao. The two-day festival focussed on the joy of reading and took place on Friday March 20th and Saturday March 21st 2026. More than 1300 children participated in the Reading Festival activities!

Special Programme for Grade 3 Students
On Friday 20 March, students from 20 primary schools participated in reading promotion activities. The special program for grade 3 students was organised at the centrally-located Johan Maurits School in Willemstad. Children took part in inspiring sessions with authors such as Crisen Schorea and Tyson Hill, and workshops like ‘If I were an author’ and ‘Book Sushi’. It was an educational day where all the children were able to enjoy interactive reading and language activities.

Spectacular Reading Festival Curaçao
On Saturday 21 March, children of all ages and their families were welcome at the Johan Maurits School in Willemstad for the great Reading Festival Curaçao with a variety of activities centred around the joy of reading. The National Library of Curaçao organized, among other things, sessions with authors, a book exhibition, and a digital library. Students from the University of Curaçao conducted workshops such as ‘create your own story’, ‘if I were an author’, and ‘reading aloud and imagining’. There was also a tambu workshop, dance, music, a creative zone, a play zone, and a food court. In short, a vibrant and elaborate program for young and old.

Book donations and prizes
All festival visitors received a wonderful new book! In addition, participants also had the chance to win lovely prizes: educational games and materials. More than 1,300 children were able to enjoy the activities of the Reading Festival Curaçao and were inspired to read more, visit the library more often, and experience that reading is just great fun! For the organisers, it was wonderful to see so many happy faces. We are very much looking forward to the next edition of the Reading Festival Curaçao.

Thanks to all contributors
The Reading Festival Curaçao was made possible thanks to the support of the Dutch Foundation for Literature. We also thank all local sponsors and partners in Curaçao, the Johan Maurits School and of course the many enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers; without your help it would not have been possible to organise the Reading Festival Curaçao.
